Google Launches Tap to Share for Android Devices
Google introduced a Tap to Share feature for Quick Share, allowing Android users to exchange files and contacts by physically tapping their devices together.
Google LLC launched Tap to Share via Quick Share on August 12, 2026, enabling Android users to exchange contact cards, photos, and videos by physically tapping compatible devices together. The feature provides an instant, two-way exchange that mirrors Apple's NFC-powered NameDrop functionality.
The update is available immediately for Pixel 6 and newer models. To improve ergonomics and mimic an intuitive tap gesture, Google repositioned the NFC chip to the top frame of the new Pixel 11 series, removing the requirement for users to align centrally-mounted chips.
Support will soon expand to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Google expects to roll out the feature to additional Android devices by the end of the year.
