U.S. Retail Sales Grow for Tenth Straight Month in July
The National Retail Federation reports that U.S. retail sales increased for the tenth consecutive month in July, driven by low unemployment and steady wage gains.
Retail sales in the United States increased for the 10th consecutive month in July, according to the CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor. Total retail sales, excluding gasoline stations and automobile dealers, rose 0.32% month over month and 5.15% year over year. Core retail sales, which further exclude restaurants, grew by 0.3% month over month and 4.72% year over year.
Matthew Shay, President and CEO of the National Retail Federation, attributed this steady momentum to a low unemployment rate and steady wage gains. He stated that households remained budget conscious while utilizing midsummer sales and early back-to-school promotions to stretch their dollars. He added that retailers remained committed to affordability to ensure everyday products stay accessible for families.
