Democrats Gain Ground in Colorado Congressional Races

Democrats are challenging Republican strongholds in Colorado as final ballots are counted, while a Corpus Christi city council race heads to a runoff.

Democratic candidates are making significant gains in Colorado's U.S. House races, challenging historically Republican strongholds. In the 5th Congressional District, Jessica Killin leads incumbent Jeff Crank by over five points in a district that has never elected a Democrat. In the 4th District, Democrat Eileen Laubacher leads incumbent Lauren Boebert by less than one point, a sharp decline from Boebert's 11.6% margin in 2024. Manny Rutinel has been declared the winner of the 8th District, leading Gabe Evans by nearly 15 points, while Republican Jeff Hurd maintains a narrow lead of less than two points in the 3rd District.

Colorado Republican Party Chair Craig Steiner attributed the shift to a national wave of resistance against President Donald Trump, citing the war in Iran and spiking gas prices. Democratic representatives Brittany Pettersen and Jason Crow stated the results provide a necessary check on the presidency and a mandate to address tariffs, housing, and healthcare.

Separately, in Corpus Christi, Texas, the City Council District 4 race is headed to a December 12 runoff. Unofficial results show Kristina Nelson leading Dan Herrington by only 23 votes. The seat was vacated by Kaylynn Paxson, who ran for mayor.
