Ford and Apple Integrate Apple Maps into Electric Vehicle Platform

Ford Motor Company will natively embed Apple Maps into its Universal Electric Vehicle Platform starting in 2027 to power navigation and autonomous driving systems.

Apple and Ford Motor Company announced a partnership to integrate Apple Maps directly into Ford's upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform starting in 2027. This integration utilizes Apple's new MapKit for Automotive SDK, making Ford the first automaker to embed the navigation system directly into vehicle displays. The system provides native turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic data, and intelligent EV routing with battery preconditioning without requiring a connected iPhone.

Ford will use Apple's road-level data to enhance its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving and the autonomous driving technology developed by its subsidiary, Latitude AI LLC. The first vehicle to feature this integration will be a midsize electric pickup priced around $30,000, followed by a small all-electric SUV.

While Apple Maps will serve as the embedded default, Ford confirmed that CarPlay will remain available across its vehicles. This strategy contrasts with General Motors, which intends to replace CarPlay with proprietary software to maintain control over its operating system.
