Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Surpasses 3 Million Passengers

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport recorded over 3 million passengers for the first time, though rising fuel prices may flatten growth in the coming year.

The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport surpassed 3 million passengers for the first time in a 12-month period ending in September 2026. The airport recorded 3,004,991 total passengers, exceeding its initial projection of 2.9 million. Growth was driven by a diverse market: 38% of travelers were Montana residents, 35% were tourists, and 27% were nonresidents visiting for business or personal reasons.

Airport officials noted that stable visitation at Yellowstone National Park indicates demand extends beyond traditional vacation travel. To accommodate this growth, the airport is undergoing a $200 million terminal expansion and adding a parallel runway and a third cross-wind landing strip, expected by summer 2027.

Despite the milestone, President and CEO Brian Sprenger warned that surging jet fuel prices, caused by supply disruptions following the start of the Iran war in late February, may lead to flat growth over the next year. While the airport maintains daily nonstop service to several major domestic hubs, Sprenger noted that airlines are becoming more cautious about launching new long-distance routes due to these operational costs.
