IMF Negotiates Final $2.3 Billion Disbursement for Egypt
The International Monetary Fund dispatched a mission to Egypt to negotiate a staff-level agreement for a final $2.3 billion economic disbursement.
The International Monetary Fund dispatched a mission to Egypt this week to negotiate a staff-level agreement on the country's economic programme. The organization aims to present a draft for executive board approval by mid-December to facilitate a final disbursement of approximately $2.3 billion before the Extended Fund Facility expires on December 15, 2026.
Negotiations focus on maintaining tight monetary policy, implementing a fiscal consolidation plan, and pursuing structural reforms to reduce the state's economic footprint. The IMF is pushing for an accelerated divestment programme and an improved business climate to encourage private sector-led growth. Total disbursements under the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Framework have reached approximately $7.3 billion to date.
The IMF expects Egypt's economic growth to rise to 5.1 per cent this year. Officials cite the country's flexible exchange rate and policy responses as key factors in absorbing the economic effects of the Iran war.
