Peter Obi Condemns Arrest of Political Coordinator in Akwa Ibom
Peter Obi condemned the arrest of an OK Movement coordinator during an Independence Day march in Uyo, calling the action a threat to democratic rights.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, condemned the arrest of Elijah Noah, the Akwa Ibom state coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement. The arrest took place on October 1, 2026, in Uyo, after police intervened to stop an Independence Day march.
In a statement posted on X, Obi described the incident as a threat to freedom of expression and democratic rights. He asserted that identifying with a political movement is a constitutional right and argued that national independence is meaningless if citizens cannot express themselves without fear of intimidation.
Obi further criticized officials who previously fought against injustice but now defend oppression after attaining positions of authority. He called for a Nigeria free from intolerance and abuse of power.
