Israel Drone Strike in Syria Injures Civilians
The Military of Israel targeted a vehicle in southwestern Syria on August 22, causing civilian injuries and sparking condemnation from Syria and Qatar.
The Military of Israel conducted a drone strike on August 22, 2026, targeting a vehicle near the village of Beit Jinn in southwestern Syria. The Israeli military stated the operation targeted a terrorist who was in the final stages of preparing attacks and posed an immediate threat to its forces.
Syria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates disputed these claims, asserting the target was a civilian delivery truck. Syrian state TV and local reports indicated that the blast wounded a driver, who was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Damascus condemned the strike as a blatant violation of its sovereignty and international law.
The Government of Qatar also strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an unacceptable act of aggression that threatens regional security. Qatar called on the international community to hold Israel accountable to prevent further transgressions.
This incident follows a pattern of near-daily Israeli incursions in the region and a recent bombing of an airbase in northwest Syria on Tuesday. U.S. special envoy Tom Barrack characterized that previous airbase bombing as unnecessary.
