Pauline Hanson's Support Drops After Monoculture Speech

Pauline Hanson and One Nation saw polling declines after Hanson advocated for a monocultural Australia in a controversial National Press Club address.

Support for Pauline Hanson and her One Nation party declined in July 2026 following a June 17 speech at the National Press Club. During the address, Hanson advocated for Australia to become a monoculture, proposed defunding the ABC and SBS, and criticized paid parental leave. A Resolve Political Monitor survey showed One Nation's support falling three percentage points to 26%, while Hanson's preference as prime minister dropped eight points to 25%.

While 61% of Australians still favor reducing immigration according to a DemosAU poll, a majority rejected the vision of a monocultural country. One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce defended Hanson's direct communication style, but leaders from the Labor and Liberal parties criticized the party's lack of viable policy solutions. Coalition leader Angus Taylor directly rebuked One Nation's economic credentials and introduced an immigration policy based on values discrimination to recapture right-wing voters.

These shifts benefited other political actors. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese saw his preferred prime minister rating rise to 33% as the Labor government stabilized support through tax changes to negative gearing and capital gains. The Coalition's support increased to 23%. In Victoria, where a state election is set for November 28, Resolve polling shows a tight race with both Labor and the Coalition tied at a 27% primary vote, while One Nation's support in the state dipped to 22%.
