Atiku Abubakar Denies Plot to Replace Adamawa ADC Candidate

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State held two protests within one week at the party's state secretariat in Yola to oppose an alleged plot to replace governorship candidate Omar Suleiman. The Adamawa Forward Political Organisation, which led the July 27 demonstration, claimed that politicians in Abuja were attempting to substitute Suleiman with Hamman Tukur using monetary inducements.

Atiku Abubakar, the ADC presidential candidate and former Vice-President, denied allegations that he sanctioned the replacement. Through his campaign council and media aide Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar described the claims as "entirely false, malicious and the product of mischief-makers," asserting that he respects internal party democracy.

Joshua Buba, secretary of the Adamawa Forward Political Organisation, warned that such treachery would be "catastrophic for the party ahead of the 2027 election" and urged those planning the replacement to back out. Conversely, Mark Wosi, Director General of the Omarana Campaign Organisation, stated that the party remains on the right track in Adamawa State.
