Greenlink Reroutes Power Cable to Avoid Fictional Grave

The Greenlink interconnector project relocated a £430 million undersea power cable between the United Kingdom and Ireland to avoid a specific site on Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The rerouting followed hundreds of protests from fans of the Harry Potter series who believe the fictional character Dobby is buried at that location.

Project manager Simon Ludlam stated that the company received the surge of calls after a BBC interview revealed the cable's planned path. While Ludlam initially dismissed the concerns because the character is fictitious, the firm hired planners to establish an alternative route.

The new path successfully avoids the fan site but now passes near actual Bronze Age human burial remains. Meanwhile, the landowner of Freshwater West beach, Blickling Hall, has requested that fans stop leaving stones at the site due to ecological sensitivity.
