Mayor Zohran Mamdani Forms New York City Business Advisory Council

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has established a new business advisory council consisting of 15 executives from the finance, health care, and real estate sectors. The initiative, spearheaded by Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, aims to provide strategic guidance on job growth and budgetary constraints through quarterly meetings beginning in the fall.

Council members include Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya, RXR head Scott Rechler, and Etsy CEO Kruti Patel Goyal, alongside former executives from UBS Americas and Blackstone. While the council maintains a strong presence from the health care industry, it lacks representation from major firms such as Meta and JPMorgan Chase.

The formation of the council occurs amid existing tension between the democratic socialist mayor and Wall Street leaders, some of whom have expressed concerns over Mamdani's policies and anti-Israel rhetoric. Despite these frictions, participants like Scott Rechler indicated a willingness to work with the administration for the benefit of the city and state.
