Tamil Nadu Leaders Pay Tribute to Muthuramalinga Thevar
Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and opposition leaders observed Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar's 119th birth anniversary amid heavy security and political criticism of the ruling government.
Political leaders across Tamil Nadu observed the 119th birth anniversary of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and the 64th Guru Pooja on October 30. Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, paid floral tributes at Nandanam but canceled a planned visit to Pasumpon village due to security concerns regarding expected crowd sizes.
DMK president MK Stalin and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami paid tributes at Goripalayam and Theppakulam before traveling to Pasumpon village in the Ramanathapuram district. During these events, Stalin criticized the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, alleging a collapse in law and order characterized by prisoner escapes and rising commodity costs. He stated that voters who expected Vijay to act like a real-life hero based on his film roles now feel betrayed.
To maintain order, the government deployed 18,000 police personnel and installed 480 CCTV cameras across Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, and Virudhunagar. Authorities also established 118 vehicle-checking points and closed liquor shops in these districts. Security personnel clashed with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam cadres in Madurai when the group attempted to enter the Goripalayam venue, resulting in pushed-down barricades and heated exchanges.
