VSMC Opens US$7.8 Billion Semiconductor Plant in Singapore

VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC) opened a US$7.8 billion 300 mm wafer fabrication plant in Tampines, Singapore, on September 28. The facility is a joint venture between NXP Semiconductors and Vanguard International Semiconductor, focusing on 130-nanometre to 40 nm process technologies.

The plant produces specialty semiconductors for analogue, power management, and interposer applications. These chips are designed to support physical artificial intelligence within industrial infrastructure, robotics, and vehicles. The fab has entered risk production, with volume production slated for the first quarter of 2027 and full capacity expected by 2029.

The project is expected to create roughly 1,600 professional and technical jobs. To secure a talent pipeline, VSMC signed seven memoranda of understanding with local polytechnics and universities for research and development. Company and government leaders emphasized the strategic importance of the site for global supply chain resilience and the scaling of AI in the real world.
