APC and Accord Trade Vote-Buying Charges in Osun State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord party have exchanged accusations of electoral malpractice ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election. The APC alleges that Governor Ademola Adeleke planned to pay civil servants and public workers 20,000 naira each to influence their votes and claims Accord agents distributed 10,000 naira to voters in Osogbo. Accord dismissed these claims as hypocritical, accusing APC operatives of purchasing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and collecting voter PINs.

Simultaneously, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that 192,702 eligible voters in Osun State have collected their PVCs, representing 37.5% of those distributed. Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola scheduled a mock accreditation exercise for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System for August 1. PVC distribution will continue across 332 Registration Areas until July 28 before moving to Local Government Area offices from July 29 to August 7.

APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye urged INEC to simplify the PVC collection process to reduce voter hardship and increase turnout. To coordinate its campaign for candidate Bola Oyebamiji, the APC established a National Campaign Council chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, with an inauguration scheduled for July 28 in Abuja. Security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, are currently coordinating with INEC to manage potential violence at identified flashpoints.
