Amazon Restructures Alexa Leadership After Launching AI Tablets
Amazon is replacing the head of its Alexa division following the launch of generative AI tablets as the company seeks to monetize the voice assistant.
Amazon.com is restructuring the leadership of its Alexa division following the launch of high-end tablets featuring Alexa+, a new generative AI version of its voice assistant. The move is part of a broader effort to monetize the Alexa service, which has consistently lost money since its debut in 2014.
Daniel Rausch, the vice president of Alexa and Echo, will step down from the unit next month and return to the devices and services division in 2027. He will be replaced by Aidan Marcuss, who currently serves as the vice president of Fire TV, advertising, and the Amazon appstore. To facilitate the transition, product and marketing vice president Kevin Keith will temporarily manage the responsibilities previously held by Marcuss.
The leadership shuffle coincides with the introduction of Alexa+, which is integrated into the new tablets. Amazon is offering the generative AI service for a monthly fee of $20 or as part of a Prime membership costing $139 per year.
