Yousef Rabhi Defeats Mayor Christopher Taylor in Democratic Primary

Yousef Rabhi defeated incumbent Mayor Christopher Taylor in the Democratic primary election for mayor of Ann Arbor on August 4. Unofficial results show Rabhi secured 57% of the vote compared to 42% for Taylor.

Taylor conceded the race following the results. Because Rabhi currently faces no challengers for the November 3 general election, he is projected to become the city's next mayor. Rabhi, a former Michigan state representative and current Washtenaw County Commissioner, campaigned on platforms of increased affordability, stronger city unions, and the expansion of cooperatives.

During his campaign, Rabhi criticized the housing density efforts of the current administration. Following his victory, he characterized the win as a movement to ensure the working class of Ann Arbor has a voice in city government.
