US Companies Urge Government to Avoid Brazilian Tariffs

The Coca-Cola Company, Tesla, and eBay joined hundreds of other organizations in urging the U.S. government to avoid imposing new tariffs on Brazilian products.

The Coca-Cola Company, Tesla, and eBay have formally urged the United States government to refrain from imposing new tariffs on Brazilian imports. In submissions to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, these corporations argued that additional duties would increase production costs, disrupt existing supply chains, and reduce the global competitiveness of U.S. industries.

Specific concerns varied by industry. Tesla cautioned that certain critical Brazilian components lack domestic alternatives in the U.S., while eBay requested exemptions for second-hand goods to protect consumers and small sellers from price hikes. The Coca-Cola Company specifically requested that the government maintain exemptions for orange-based raw materials and establish new ones for lemon-based inputs.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative reported receiving 365 total submissions during the public consultation process. These entries, coming from a mix of individual citizens, trade associations, and corporations, signal widespread business concern regarding potential economic instability and rising costs.
