Air Tanzania Launches First Direct Flights to Muscat Oman

Air Tanzania launched the first direct air link between Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Muscat, Oman, in late July 2026. The airline will operate three weekly flights connecting Julius Nyerere International Airport and Muscat International Airport, with services also extending to Zanzibar.

The launch was formalized during the Tanzanian–Omani Tourism Promotional Forum in Muscat. The new route follows a period of high demand, with Tanzania recording over 29,000 visitors from Oman during the first half of 2026. The initiative aligns with Tanzania's national strategy to attract 8 million international tourists annually by 2030.

Reports on the aircraft used for the inaugural service varied, with some sources citing the Airbus A220-300 and others mentioning the Boeing 737 MAX 9. The service was authorized by the Oman Civil Aviation Authority to strengthen economic and historical ties and to position Muscat International Airport as a regional gateway between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and East Africa.
