Corporations Adopt Sovereign AI to Protect Intellectual Property
Corporate executives are shifting toward sovereign AI strategies to prevent frontier AI providers from accessing proprietary data and intellectual property.
Corporate executives are increasingly adopting sovereign AI strategies to protect intellectual property from frontier AI providers. This shift follows concerns that relying on models from companies like OpenAI and Anthropic risks siphoning proprietary knowledge, a danger highlighted by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Palantir CEO Alex Karp.
Industry tension intensified in June after Anthropic mandated a 30-day data retention policy for its Fable and Mythos models, prompting firms such as Booz Allen to restrict their use. In response to these concerns, OpenAI and Anthropic introduced features allowing enterprise customers to store data within their own clouds.
To further reduce dependency, companies are diversifying through hybrid models or deploying open-source models on their own GPUs. Some firms use Amazon Bedrock to maintain secure access to various models without provider visibility. This movement toward controlling the entire technology stack—from chips to infrastructure—is being supported by providers like Armada, which has partnered with Palantir and Nvidia to help businesses implement fully sovereign systems.
