US Congressional Delegation Visits Taiwan as Tsai Meets Pelosi

Representative Brendan Boyle leads a Democratic delegation to Taiwan while former President Tsai Ing-wen meets Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco.

A delegation of three Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday for a four-day visit. Led by Representative Brendan Boyle, the group includes Representatives Andrea Salinas and Tim Kennedy. The delegation is scheduled to meet with President Lai Ching-te and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung to discuss regional security, technology exchanges, and economic and trade issues. The visit occurs shortly before the Republic of China National Day on October 10.

Simultaneously, former Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met with U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco. This encounter marked their first meeting since Pelosi's 2022 visit to Taiwan and Tsai's first trip to the United States since leaving office in May 2024. During the meeting, Pelosi described Tsai as a "courageous champion of democracy" and "a dear friend of America."

Tsai is currently on a weeklong trip to San Francisco, which included delivering a keynote address at Stanford University’s DEFCON’s Technology and National Security Conference.
