The government of China is accelerating a strategic campaign to establish the yuan as a global currency by expanding its utility beyond trade settlement. Beijing is currently developing financial infrastructure designed to increase the role of the yuan in global financing, investment, and as a reserve currency.
This initiative involves broadening the availability of financial instruments, specifically including derivatives and hedging tools. To create a more comprehensive global financial ecosystem, the government is also simplifying the process for international borrowers to issue panda and dim sum bonds.
