Israeli Forces Assault Syrian Shepherd in Quneitra Incursion

Israeli military forces assaulted a Syrian shepherd and killed several of his sheep by driving over them during an incursion into the southern Quneitra countryside on September 24, 2026. The incident occurred between the village of al-Asha and the town of al-Rafid.

This assault followed a separate incident two days prior, when Israeli forces detained a civilian grazing sheep west of al-Rafid before releasing him the following day. These incursions occur against a backdrop of heightened tension following the collapse of Bashar Assad's regime in late 2024. At that time, Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement collapsed and subsequently occupied the Syrian buffer zone and other strategic sites in the Syrian Golan Heights.

The Government of Syria has demanded a full Israeli withdrawal from Syrian territory, asserting that these recent actions violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Syrian authorities have called on the international community to intervene in response to the incursions.
