Ajit Doval Meets Saudi Foreign Minister on Energy Security

Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh to discuss maritime security and energy supplies.

Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh on July 20, 2026, to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia. This visit marked Doval's third trip to the Kingdom this year, following a previous visit in April and a bilateral Visa Waiver Agreement signed in December 2025.

The officials reviewed bilateral relations and focused on regional developments, energy security, and the protection of maritime corridors. The discussions took place amid heightened regional tensions caused by a continuing conflict between the United States and Iran, as well as an announcement by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen to implement a maritime embargo against Saudi vessels in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

While Saudi Arabia rejected the Houthi claims and vowed to protect its vessels under international law, the threats contributed to disruptions already affecting the Strait of Hormuz. Through this engagement, India aims to safeguard its energy supplies and secure vital sea lanes to ensure the safety of approximately 2.6 million Indian nationals living and working in Saudi Arabia. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Dr. Saud Al-Sati.
