National Stock Exchange of India Reports Q2 Profit of Rs 2,578 Crore

The National Stock Exchange of India reported a 23% year-on-year profit increase for Q2FY27 and announced plans to divest a stake in its coal exchange subsidiary.

The National Stock Exchange of India reported a consolidated profit of Rs 2,578 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026. This figure represents a nearly 23% increase over the Rs 2,098 crore profit recorded during the same period last year, although it is a 17.4% sequential decline from the Rs 3,120 crore earned in the June quarter.

Year-on-year growth was driven by a 9% rise in total income to Rs 4,554 crore and a 51% reduction in total expenditure, which fell to Rs 1,161 crore. This expenditure drop occurred because the exchange avoided a previous year's Rs 1,297 crore provision for Securities and Exchange Board of India settlement fees. Trading activity remained strong, with cash market average daily traded volume rising 24% year-on-year to approximately Rs 1.18 lakh crore.

Beyond financial results, the exchange announced plans to divest a 40% stake in its National Coal Exchange of India subsidiary to strategic investors. The exchange also recently facilitated India's first tokenised bond issuances totaling Rs 1,000 crore. Managing Director and CEO Ashish Chauhan described the quarter as momentous, noting the successful listing of the institution as a milestone in the exchange's evolution.
