Denver Prepares for Labor Day Travel Surge

The Denver International Airport expects more than 368,000 passengers to pass through security checkpoints between Thursday and Monday for the Labor Day weekend. Peak travel is predicted for Friday and Monday, prompting airport officials to advise travelers to arrive two hours before boarding. The airport also noted that the Level 6 south bridge remains closed for construction.

AAA identifies Denver as the fourth most popular domestic destination for the holiday, though airfare to top destinations has risen nearly 20% to an average of $790. On the roads, the Colorado Department of Transportation warns of heavy congestion on mountain highways, specifically Interstate 70. Officials expect over 46,900 vehicles per day to use the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels.

Weather conditions may further complicate travel. The National Weather Service in Boulder forecasts afternoon and evening storms throughout the weekend, which could result in flight delays.
