Aptiv Executive Advocates for Physical AI at Intelligent Edge

Javed Khan, EVP and President of Software, Advanced Safety and User Experience at Aptiv, is advocating for the adoption of physical AI through the development of the intelligent edge. He argues that transformative AI applications are shifting away from centralized cloud data centers toward the edge, where real-time sensing and decision-making converge.

Khan describes this shift as critical for industries requiring immediate responsiveness and safety, specifically autonomous vehicles, industrial robotics, and healthcare. He proposes a closed-loop system modeled after the human nervous system, in which edge devices process data locally for instant action while using cloud orchestration for continuous fleet-wide learning.

To implement this framework, Khan recommends that enterprises identify high-impact applications and invest in energy-efficient edge hardware. He further advises companies to upskill in model optimization and deploy management platforms capable of performing over-the-air updates.
