SKF Uses AI Greta Garbo in New Television Ad

Svenska Kullagerfabriken released a television advertisement featuring an AI-generated version of deceased actress Greta Garbo to promote its frictionless ball-bearings.

Svenska Kullagerfabriken released a 99-second television advertisement featuring an AI-generated version of the deceased screen legend Greta Garbo. The Swedish ball-bearings company designed the ad to create brand synergy between Garbo's perceived smoothness and the company's frictionless products, referencing a promotional film the actress filmed for the company in 1921.

To create the AI version of Garbo, the company used existing images and photographs instead of movie footage. This approach potentially allows the company to bypass movie studio copyrights by negotiating licensing agreements solely with Garbo's distant relatives. The relatives have indicated they are open to licensing the AI version of the actress for future film projects.
