The National Orientation Agency called for citizen commitment to national unity and peace as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The National Orientation Agency called for renewed citizen commitment to national unity and development during Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to take responsibility for the country's future, arguing that government efforts alone are insufficient to build the desired nation.
Issa-Onilu emphasized the need for increased productivity, self-reliance, and responsible citizenship to sustain the gains of independence. He stated, "We must continue to hold on to the gains of our independence by taking responsibility for the Nigeria we want."
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the agency specifically encouraged citizens to protect national peace by rejecting hate speech and violence. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to promoting patriotism and providing accurate information on government policies to encourage constructive participation in national development.
