Meta Projects Up to $145 Billion AI Infrastructure Spend

Meta Platforms is aggressively expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure, projecting capital expenditures between $130 billion and $145 billion this year. This heavy investment has significantly impacted the company's liquidity, with free cash flow dropping to $784 million from $8.55 billion year-over-year.

Despite the spending, the company reported a 27% surge in second-quarter ad revenue to $59.36 billion and reached 3.6 billion daily active users. Meta is diversifying its income streams through AI glasses, business agents, and the launch of Muse, a personal agentic AI product that attracted 700,000 daily users within 11 days of its release.

To penetrate the enterprise AI market, Meta hired former MongoDB CEO Chirantan Desai. However, the company continues to face financial headwinds, including a $4.03 billion operating loss at Reality Labs and $2.40 billion in recent legal charges. Meta also remains under regulatory pressure in the European Union regarding its advertising practices.
