Broadcom Seeks $30 Billion in Debt Financing for OpenAI

Broadcom is arranging $30 billion in debt financing to help OpenAI develop and purchase custom AI chips for its expanding infrastructure.

Broadcom Inc. has entered early discussions to arrange $30 billion in debt financing to support OpenAI in the development and purchase of custom AI chips. The two companies are co-developing the hardware to meet OpenAI's growing infrastructure needs as the AI research firm targets a computing capacity of 20 gigawatts by 2028.

To facilitate these creative financing deals, Broadcom is working with investment firms Apollo Global Management and Blackstone Group Inc. The scale of the funding reflects the immense capital requirements associated with AI chip production and the expansion of data centers.

This financial push occurs as OpenAI prepares for a planned initial public offering next year. The custom chip initiative aims to reduce reliance on external hardware providers and provide the specialized computing power necessary for the next generation of AI models.
