PKR Youth Chief Urges Grassroots Rebuild Amid Member Defections

Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim called for a party reorganization following electoral losses and member defections to the new Bersama party.

PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim called for a comprehensive rebuild of the People's Justice Party's grassroots presence during the launch of the PKR Youth and Women congress in Melaka on August 14. Munim stated that the party must reassess its political strategies and move beyond relying on popularity to win elections, citing recent setbacks in Sabah, Johor, and Negri Sembilan.

Munim noted that leading a reform movement from within the government in Putrajaya presents different challenges than operating as an opposition party. He urged members to use recent poll results as a signal to reorganize systematically to secure a major victory by 2028.

Addressing internal stability, Munim dismissed claims that member defections to the Bersama party, founded by Rafizi Ramli, have hindered the organization's functions. While he acknowledged that some members left due to a loss of confidence, he argued the numbers were not significant. However, he admitted that a shift in voter segments to Bersama likely contributed to PKR losing the Bukit Batu and Perling seats in the Johor state elections.

Simultaneously, Rafizi Ramli announced that Bersama is in the final stages of preparation and will release its candidates for the Melaka state elections on August 15.
