Pakistani Forces Kill Over 50 Protesters in Kashmir Crackdown

The Military of Pakistan killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds during a four-day crackdown on protesters in the Muzaffarabad region of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The demonstrators, organized by the Joint Awami Action Committee, demanded the protection of fundamental rights and the fulfillment of previous commitments made by local authorities.

Human rights organizations condemned the violence against unarmed civilians. The Human Rights Foundation reported that authorities implemented an internet blackout and restricted media access to conceal evidence, which included the removal of bodies from hospitals.

In response to the escalation, the United Kashmir People's National Party sent a delegation to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The party briefed UN officials on the human rights situation and urged international intervention to prevent further loss of life.
