Anand Mahindra Rejects Claims AI Will Destroy India IT Sector
Anand Mahindra argues that artificial intelligence will increase the importance of India's IT services industry by requiring complex integration and secure deployment for enterprises.
Tech Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra dismissed predictions that artificial intelligence will destroy India's IT services industry during the company's 39th Annual General Meeting in New Delhi on July 18. He asserted that AI will act as a catalyst for growth rather than a cause for job losses, arguing that the sector's role will evolve and become more critical as enterprises seek trusted partners to deploy AI securely.
Mahindra explained that enterprise-scale AI deployment is a sophisticated integration exercise rather than a simple plug-and-play solution, as companies must navigate legacy systems and fragmented data. He stated that the future of business will rely on human judgment amplified by AI capability rather than total automation. Tech Mahindra intends to enhance competitive advantages through proprietary data and AI-powered platforms.
Additionally, Mahindra called for India to develop sovereign AI capabilities to avoid remaining a mere consumer of foreign intelligence, drawing a historical parallel to the development of the PARAM supercomputer in the 1980s. He emphasized that India must become a creator and shaper of intelligence to maintain its global standing in technology services.
