Hank Green Bans AI From Scripts After Fan Criticism

Hank Green announced a personal AI policy on Friday after fans criticized his over-reliance on large language models for research, editing, and sourcing. Under the new guidelines, Green will no longer use LLMs to write, edit, or outline scripts. He committed to ensuring that video theses originate with humans and that no AI-generated images or music are used in his content.

Green apologized to his audience and to employees at Complexly, the nonprofit he co-founded, for the reputational risk his actions caused. To regain trust and prioritize quality over quantity, he is slowing his content production. This includes pausing his daily word games, SMUSH and 4x3, and reducing the frequency of posts on his Hankschannel YouTube page.

Green urged other content creators to establish their own AI policies to maintain creative integrity. Complexly maintains its own separate AI policies for its educational shows, including SciShow and CrashCourse.
