Russian Missile Strikes Kill Six at Kyiv Locomotive Depot

The Federal Government of Russia escalated its campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure on Tuesday, launching a ballistic missile strike on a locomotive depot in Kyiv that killed six railway employees. The attack was part of a broader bombardment of the capital and surrounding region that resulted in at least 12 deaths and a dozen injuries, including three children, following six days of continuous raids.

Ukrainian officials report a strategic shift in Russian tactics toward direct attacks on civilian locomotives and depots. Since the start of the year, Russia has hit the rail network over 1,500 times, damaging 492 locomotives and 249 carriages. These strikes have caused significant delays and disrupted the export of grain from Black Sea ports, targeting the network that serves as the backbone of the Ukrainian economy and a primary logistical supplier for its military.

In addition to the Kyiv strikes, a drone hit a train in the Odesa Region carrying 600 people, including 15 children. Ukraine is now seeking additional air defenses from Western partners to protect its critical transport infrastructure from further targeted raids.
