Bodum Recalls 6 Million French Presses Over Burn Risks

Bodum is recalling nearly 6 million French Press coffee makers after glass carafes broke and caused 48 burn injuries in the United States.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of approximately 5.9 million Bodum French Press coffee makers due to a risk of serious burn injuries. The recall affects 8-cup and 12-cup models sold nationwide and online from 1974 through October 2026, including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya models.

According to the commission, the glass carafes can break unexpectedly during use if they are already cracked or damaged. The risk of breakage increases significantly if consumers use metal spoons to stir the coffee. The agency reported 70 instances of carafes breaking, which resulted in 48 burn injuries.

Bodum is providing affected customers with warning labels and plastic stirring spoons to prevent further breakage. The company advises consumers to stop using metal utensils in the glass carafes immediately to avoid injury.
