UK Parliament Launches Inquiry Into Eurovision Performance Failures

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee is launching a formal inquiry into the United Kingdom's consistent poor performance in the Eurovision Song Contest. Chair Dame Caroline Dinenage announced the scrutiny follows a dismal record of achievement, highlighted by a last-place finish in 2026 by the act Look Mum No Computer.

As part of a State of Play session, the committee will examine whether the UK's lack of success is the result of poor song selection, weak performances, or other systemic factors. The inquiry will call for evidence from music industry experts and executives from the BBC, which is the public broadcaster responsible for selecting the national entrants.

While the UK has a history of success in the competition, it has not won since 1997. The 2026 contest was won by Bulgaria's Dara with the song Bangaranga, though the event was marked by boycotts from several countries, including Ireland, in protest of Israel's participation.
