Indian High Commissioner Seeks Stronger Ties With Bangladesh Officials

India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, conducted a series of diplomatic meetings in Dhaka between September 1 and September 3, 2026, to advance bilateral cooperation. Trivedi met with Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal to discuss the formation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups, mutual delegation visits, and the digitization of parliamentary records. During these talks, he reiterated an invitation from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for the Bangladeshi officials to visit India.

In separate discussions with Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Abdul Moyeen Khan and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mir Shahe Alam, Trivedi focused on strengthening local government structures and deepening people-to-people ties. He urged both nations to move beyond past grievances and acknowledge their respective democratic challenges to ensure continued development for ordinary citizens.

Trivedi also congratulated the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party on its 48th Founding Day. While engaging with the administration, he explicitly stated that India would not comment on the internal politics of Bangladesh, asserting that the country's elected government and citizens are best positioned to determine their own interests.
