United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana on Thursday. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Yiannopoulos entered the country legally in 2019 but overstayed his visa.
The arrest follows a July 22 order from a federal immigration judge mandating his deportation after he missed a court hearing. Yiannopoulos remains in custody pending his removal from the United States.
The Trump administration publicized the arrest by circulating a mug shot of Yiannopoulos to encourage other immigrants to self-deport. This action is part of a broader immigration crackdown targeting foreign citizens at domestic airports.
