UK Councils Announce Road Closures for Utility Maintenance

Several local government authorities in the United Kingdom have announced temporary traffic orders to facilitate utility and infrastructure maintenance. Westmorland and Furness Council will close a 65-metre stretch of Devonshire Road in Barrow from August 3 to August 23. The closure, which extends south-west from the U6150 junction, allows Electricity North West to perform utility works. While emergency vehicles will maintain access, pedestrian and cyclist paths will be intermittently unavailable, and traffic is being diverted via Walney Road, Park Road, Schneider Road, and the U6150.

Simultaneously, Dorset Council has implemented multiple restrictions across its region. In Weymouth, Radipole Lane is closed from July 27 to August 21 for gas main upgrades by Scotia Gas Networks. Other scheduled works include the A37 in Frampton for resurfacing from August 17 to August 26 and East Street in Sydling St. Nicholas for sewer renovation from August 10 to September 4. Additionally, Colas is conducting highway maintenance through August 17, and Public Footpath 19 in Portland is restricted for 26 weeks due to rock fall risks. Dorset Council warned that violators of these traffic orders may face fines up to £1,000.
