BGMEA and OCAB Partner to Boost Chinese Garment Investment
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and the Overseas Chinese Association of Bangladesh are launching a matchmaking platform to attract Chinese investment in garment manufacturing.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Overseas Chinese Association of Bangladesh (OCAB) established a partnership on August 4 in Dhaka to increase Chinese investment and technology transfer within the ready-made garment sector. The two organizations agreed to develop a business matchmaking platform designed to connect Chinese firms with local opportunities.
Under the agreement, the BGMEA will collect data from its member factories, specifically targeting those that are currently non-operational or seeking joint ventures. This effort aims to revitalize struggling factories through the injection of new capital and the expansion of upstream linkage industries.
Beyond direct investment, the groups have discussed integrating artificial intelligence and technical modernization to improve the competitiveness of apparel exports. Other areas of cooperation include the implementation of renewable energy and carbon trading initiatives to modernize the industry's infrastructure.
