Russia Targets Ukrainian Defense Official in Wave of Drone Strikes

The Federal Government of Russia conducted a series of drone attacks across Ukraine on April 19 and 20, 2026, resulting in civilian deaths and a targeted strike on a high-ranking official. In a massive overnight operation, Russia launched 236 drones, hitting 18 locations. The strikes killed a 16-year-old boy in Chernihiv and a man in Kherson, where a drone hit a van in the city center.

On April 20, the offensive shifted toward targeted infrastructure and personnel. A drone strike hit a district police station in Pryluky, injuring one civilian and causing vehicle and infrastructure damage. Simultaneously, four jet-powered Shahed-type drones targeted the home and vehicles of Serhii Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Defense Minister, in Kyiv Oblast. Beskrestnov was wounded in the attack but remained in stable condition.

Ukraine responded by striking the Atlant Aero drone factory in Taganrog, Russia, causing fires at the facility that produces reconnaissance and strike drones. Russian officials reported three injuries and damage to a vocational school and commercial enterprises in the area. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 274 Ukrainian drones, aerial bombs, and a Neptune missile during the exchanges.
