Nepal Recommends Ambassadors for 13 Countries to Fill Vacancies

The Council of Ministers of Nepal recommended ambassadors for 13 countries during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on September 18, 2026. The move aims to fill several long-vacant diplomatic positions across key global partners.

High-profile recommendations include Nishchal Nath Pandey as ambassador to India, Kalyan Raj Sharma to China, and Chiranjung Thapa to the United States. Former Nepal Army chief Gaurav Shumsher Rana was proposed for the mission to the United Kingdom. The government also recommended nominees for posts in Japan, Israel, Spain, Germany, Oman, Malaysia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia.

The nominees must now undergo approval by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. Once the committee grants approval and the government secures formal agreement from the respective host countries, the President of Nepal will make the formal appointments.
