Pakistan and Turkiye Coordinate Regional Stability and Security
Pakistan's Ishaq Dar and Turkiye's Hakan Fidan agreed on diplomatic solutions for regional challenges and scheduled a four-nation summit in Istanbul.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a series of telephonic conversations between August 17 and August 19 to coordinate responses to regional developments. The ministers agreed that dialogue and diplomacy are the primary tools for addressing regional challenges and promoting stability.
During these discussions, Fidan invited Dar to attend the Regional 4 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Istanbul later this month. This summit will include representatives from Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Dar accepted the invitation and subsequently met with Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch to review preparations for the upcoming high-level visits.
These diplomatic engagements follow the August 7 signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a trilateral security framework between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye intended to enhance military cooperation and collective deterrence. Simultaneously, Pakistan is acting as a mediator in the conflict between the United States and Iran, facilitating negotiations through the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide commended these efforts, stating that Pakistan's actions are a service to the world.
