D-Wave Delivers Italy's First Annealing Quantum Computer to Como

D-Wave Quantum Inc. installed an Advantage2 quantum computer in Como to provide European researchers and businesses with production-grade computing capabilities.

D-Wave Quantum Inc. delivered Italy's first annealing quantum computer, an Advantage2 system featuring over 4,400 qubits, for installation at Villa Saporiti in Como, Lombardy. The system, designated as VoltaB1 within the Q-Alliance ecosystem, is intended to provide production-grade quantum computing resources to European universities, businesses, and researchers.

The deployment was funded by a €10 million agreement with Swiss Quantum Technology SA. Under the financial terms, Swiss Quantum Technology SA acquired 50% of the system's capacity for five years and retains an option to purchase the entire system. This installation follows the June 2026 signing of the Volta Declaration in Milan, which created a framework for cooperation on artificial intelligence and sovereign computing infrastructure.

The system is scheduled for formal inauguration on October 16 during the Quantum per l'Italia event. Leadership from both companies emphasized that the investment aims to connect Italian researchers with advanced resources to sustain the country's role in the quantum economy.
