Suzuki Unveils e Sky Electric Kei Car for Global Markets

Suzuki Motor unveiled the e Sky, its first electric passenger vehicle designed to meet Japan's ultra-compact kei car regulations. The production model, based on the Vision e-Sky concept from the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, features a boxy design to maximize cabin space and weighs 1,030 kg. It is powered by a 26 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and utilizes the Heartect e architecture to achieve a targeted driving range of 310 kilometers.

The vehicle includes a 10.1-inch infotainment display, digital instrumentation, a heat-pump system for winter efficiency, and Vehicle-to-Load functionality to power external devices. A specialized navigation system recommends routes based on real-time traffic and remaining battery charge.

Suzuki plans to launch the e Sky in Japan in autumn 2026, with sales beginning before the end of the current fiscal year in March 2027. The company intends to export the model to the United Kingdom and mainland Europe in 2027, specifically targeting the UK's EV mandate during the second quarter of that year. Additionally, the e Sky may serve as the foundation for an entry-level electric vehicle produced by Maruti Suzuki in India starting in 2028.

The launch follows increased competition in the Japanese electric minivehicle market, including the July release of the Racco by BYD and the planned 2027 entry of Yokohama-based EMT.
