This experiment stems from Project OT, a broader vision to transform Meta into an AI-native company. The project envisioned a structure where AI agents would replace significant portions of human labor, reduce team sizes, and eliminate management layers.

Meta eventually abandoned the most aggressive workforce-reduction plans associated with Project OT. Internal data indicated that gains in AI-assisted coding did not result in comparable improvements in user-facing products.
