SUN Mobility Unveils First Modular Battery Swapping for Heavy EVs
SUN Mobility launched a modular battery-swapping solution for heavy electric vehicles at the Prawaas 5.0 exhibition in Gandhinagar to reduce charging downtime for commercial fleets.
At the Prawaas 5.0 exhibition in Gandhinagar, SUN Mobility showcased the world's first Modular Multi-Battery Swappable Solution for heavy electric vehicles. Integrated with the Tata Starbus 12m EV platform, the AIS-038 certified system allows two batteries to be swapped in under five minutes. The technology supports 50 kWh and 100 kWh configurations for vehicles ranging from 3T to 55T GVW and operates under a Battery-as-a-Service model to eliminate upfront battery costs for operators.
The company has completed battery certification and integration with the Tata Starbus platform. It is now engaging with fleet operators and expects deployment to begin three months after orders are booked. Executives stated that the platform could increase vehicle uptime by 20 to 30 percent for high-utilization operations such as intercity buses. SUN Mobility also urged the Indian government to include battery swapping in green mobility schemes like PM E-Drive to accelerate adoption.
The exhibition also featured other commercial electrification efforts. Switch Mobility launched the EiV9 electric bus for city and institutional transit, while EKA Mobility introduced the EKA 9M Electric School Bus. MG Group unveiled the Starz premium coach platform, securing immediate orders for 50 units. Repos Energy India Pvt Ltd introduced a fuel management platform to support fleets during the transition from conventional fuels to electric power.
