Labour Hosts Donor Event Amid Calls to Cap Donations

This push for reform follows reports that Reform UK received £72 million from crypto-billionaires Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne within a 48-hour window. In response to this financial surge, Labour Chair Bridget Phillipson launched a member-led fundraising drive to counter the influence of wealthy donors.

At the annual Trades Union Congress gathering in Brighton, the TUC called for action against big money in politics, though union leaders remained divided on whether to support a specific cap on individual donors. Despite a reported £2.6 million deficit last year and a decline in donation income, outgoing general secretary Hollie Ridley informed the party's national executive committee that current finances are healthy due to spending discipline.
